Integrated Controls
The Power to Manage Your Power
When too many stand-alone energy management systems are installed in a facility, a disconnect may develop that results in systems that can’t react or respond to common building situations.
To complicate matters, thanks to construction complexities and property nuances in a given space, up to half of all buildings with energy controls fail to perform as originally expected.
Only 22% of customers in “green” buildings understand their property’s performance relative to the original objectives set for the building, and many people in these structures don’t know how to use or interact with the systems already employed. Due to a fundamental lack of information and flexibility in legacy systems, ongoing commissioning is rarely deployed, intensifying the problem.
End-to-End Controls, Totally
Convia technology integrates a facility's power delivery and other infrastructure and technology applications, including lighting control, plug load management, daylight harvesting, occupancy sensing, HVAC set points, timed shutdowns, smart workstations, and demand response strategies, into an energy efficient, easy-to manage platform.
The Convia Global Gateway desktop application gives facility managers choices in how they integrate energy management solutions throughout a building and can also be used to give individuals control over their workstation environments.
Convia’s integrated controls are enhanced with Convia Enabled components, available exclusively from Wiremold®. Convia Enabled means Convia control technology is embedded into Wiremold® wire and cable management systems. Components with Convia controls include modular power and lighting distribution systems, floor boxes, poke-thru devices, and architectural columns, which provide flexible, accessible power distribution to building owners and managers.
The result is an unparalleled integrated control solution for end-to-end power applications.
Control Starts at the Beginning
Convia provides support in planning and designing, and our engineers will develop a plan based on the power and lighting requirements specific to each client and space. We work collaboratively to ensure our clients feel comfortable during the planning phase.
As part of the installation process, Convia provides a training course for the electrical contractors on a project to ensure they are educated prior to the time installation begins. An engineer is on site during installation to oversee the process of implementing the system and stays until Convia is up and running to expectations.
The Value of Integrated Control
One way to look at energy results is to consider the combined energy savings from a set of integrated control strategies. A well designed control system is able to share component and labor costs across different types of controls and thereby reduce overall costs. Because the Convia framework facilitates integrated design, it accommodates associated cost benefits. [1]
For example, a single Convia controlled occupancy sensor can be used to trigger a number of energy management strategies. When someone enters a conference room, the occupancy sensor triggers daylight harvesting sensors to dim the lights accordingly, turns on plug loads, and changes the thermostat set points. Design with Convia means achieving a higher resolution of control because clients can use just one device to achieve multiple control strategies. [2]
As an owner or manager, you decide how the system gets used in your building.
Convia makes it easier to:
- Add or change controls
- Move or change the location of a sensor or fixture in response to spacial realities, building form, and occupant wishes
- Educate the building operator on means necessary to take corrective action
Retrofitting buildings with state-of-the-art lighting and climate control systems can save 50 percent or more of the current building energy use; new buildings can save even more. Retrofitting with the best off-the-shelf products can double your energy savings, but adds a couple of years to the payback period. Financial incentives, such as tax deductions, however, can render the payback comparable to a typical retrofit. [3]
Organizations that implement energy-efficient measures outperform their competitors by as much as 10%. [4]
Take (Integrated) Control
Convia offers integrated solutions that give occupants more control over their energy consumption, and help them keep up with the fast pace of change in a digital society.
Convia Controls: One single system for all of your building’s comprehensive energy management solutions.
