Cool Down Spending on HVAC
With Convia, HVAC can be smoothly integrated into a company’s overall energy management approach. The same occupancy sensor used to manage lighting and plug load can also be used to manage thermostat set-points. The Convia Global Gateway and Energy Track Reporting Tool allows for monitoring and regular reporting of the performance of temperature data as it relates to energy usage.
Occupancy Sensors Adjust Temperature on the Fly
Setting building temperatures lower or higher during the winter, summer, over the weekend, and during non-production times can save energy by reduced heating or cooling needs. As an example, the California Energy Commission estimates a 1-3% energy savings in summer for each degree the thermostat is set above 72°. Programming the HVAC set points between 74-78° degrees will earn a company a net savings of 3-5% while people are in the space being cooled.
Convia Controls operate even more precisely when employing occupancy sensors to actively determine when a space is empty. When an occupancy sensor registers that workers have left a room, the Convia system can power down light levels and reset the thermostat settings. The system automatically compensates for active space changes by adjusting the thermostat to a personalized energy-saving setting that will adequately maintain the climate of an empty room during both summer and winter months. Pre-programmed power sweeps and targeted plug load controls work together to further reduce electrical drawdown, especially on weekends and after-hours when electronics are simply not in use.
LEED® Opportunity
Convia Controls allow for programming of all thermostats and diffusers to give users more control of their environment, as well as monitoring and regular reporting of the performance of temperature and humidity sensors on the system, which assists with acquiring the Indoor Environmental Quality Credit 6.2 and 7.2 for LEED certification.
