About Convia
Who We Are
Convia came to life when the Herman Miller research team, along with some of the best and brightest minds in the technology and architecture sectors, began asking some fundamental questions about how buildings and interior spaces are designed, used, and constructed. Questions like:
What if buildings never became obsolete?
What if our buildings could give and receive information?
What if our buildings grew smarter the more we used them?
What if we had more choices and control in our environments?
What if our buildings didn’t drain the earth’s natural resources?
These questions led Herman Miller to the conclusion that the integration of technology into the very substance of building is a necessary and fundamental shift that must occur if buildings are to better serve society in the 21st century. In response, the Convia subsidiary was formed and charged with delivering on the vision of more sustainable building infrastructure.
In 2009, Convia entered into a strategic alliance with Wiremold®, the leading provider of modular electrical distribution components. As part of the alliance, Convia Controls will be imbedded into Wiremold’s flexible electrical wiring systems. The result is an integrated energy management platform that can be adapted to the changing needs of the user.

What We Do
Convia Controls represent an integrated energy management platform with three basic design tenets:
- Convia was designed to give people more control over their environments and the tools they need to program their environments on their own to meet their changing needs.
- Convia was designed with the belief that the integration of disparate building and energy systems is paramount if buildings are going to evolve to their greatest potential.
- Convia was designed with the belief that knowledge about how a system is performing is as important as the system itself.
Where We Are
Convia located outside of downtown Chicago in Buffalo Grove, Illinois.
